Frequently Asked Questions About Botox® and Filler (FAQ)

What’s the difference between Botox® and fillers?

Botox® and filler are often confused with one another. The difference between the two is that Botox® works to eliminate wrinkles and tighten the face by limiting muscle movement, while fillers work to add loss or lack of volume.

How Do They Work to Prevent Wrinkles?

Simply put, when Botox® is injected into the muscle, it blocks the nerve signals and relaxes the muscle for a period of time. When this relaxation occurs, deep movement wrinkles are softened or dissipate completely. Filler works by the injection of hyaluronic acid. The substance fills areas of the face to produce lift, add lost volume, and eliminate wrinkles.

What Are Botox and Filler Used For?

Here at Harris, Reynolds & Cason Family Dentistry, we use Botox to treat wrinkles in the forehead and crow’s feet around the eyes. Juvederm® filler can soften lines like nasolabial folds and marionette lines (around the mouth). We also use filler to give a fuller appearance to the lips (while also eliminating wrinkles). Alternatively, Botox helps with clenching, grinding, and muscle pain from TMJ, which you can learn more about here. (insert link)

Are Botox and Filler Safe?

Botox® and fillers are entirely safe, and FDA approved – this is only the case when used by licensed professionals.

Does Botox or Filler Hurt?

Botox® injections use a very small needle and typically cause minimal to little discomfort or pain. Speak to our doctors at your appointment to inquire about additional measures to be taken to help with any discomfort such as ice packs or numbing cream.

How long does it last?

In general, Botox® injections are meant to last 3-4 months. To keep results going, you could need a follow-up treatment. After that, you should be able to expect your treatments to begin lasting longer.
